[KYOTO] BENTO CLASS
A mix of popular Japanese dishes for fans of Japanese cuisine.

9:30-13:00 (3.5hrs)

  1. Gomaae Sesame Salad(ごま和え)
  2. Teriyaki Chicken(照り焼きチキン)
  3. Egg Roll(だし巻たまご)
  4. Tempura(天ぷら)
  5. Sushi Roll(巻き寿司)
  6. Miso Soup(みそ汁)

Morning Bento Class is a great way to learn about typical Japanese dishes such as sushi, tempura and miso soup. In addition, you will learn the cultural background of the well-known Japanese ‘Bento’. During the 2.5-3 hour class, we will demonstrate and explain the tricks to making these beautiful dishes and then you will give it a try. After you finish cooking, you will enjoy the bento lunch you just made!

What you will experience:

1. You will be welcomed by our staff with green tea.
2. The class is briefly explained by our staff and you will wear samue (working clothes for buddhist monks) as an apron.
3. Learn about dashi broth (soup stock for Japanese cuisine) and various types of seasonings (soy sauce, mirin, sake, miso, etc).
4. Cook 4-5 dishes to make bento lunch box.
5. Eat bento with the other participants.
6. End class.

Japanese pub cooking for home chefs.
14:00-17:30 (3.5hrs)  

Summer Menu (June – August 2017)

  4. Chicken Karaage 鶏の唐揚げ

  7. Hoji-cha  Green Tea Jerry ほうじ茶ゼリー

Optional Sake tasting: 1 glass@500 yen

Afternoon Izakaya Class is a great way to immerse yourself in Japanese dining culture as well as learn authentic and popular Japanese foods that are eaten at home and in local restaurants. The course consists of two parts. First, you will cook 2~3 dishes and enjoy them. Then you will return to the kitchen and learn 2~3 more dishes before eating once more. Enjoy cooking and eating a variety of dishes in cozy atmosphere just like in Izakaya restaurants (Japanese style pubs)!

What you will experience:

4. Cook 2-3 authentic Japanese dishes which are often made in Japanese homes.
5. End of the first half. Eat dishes with the other participants.
6. Restart the second half. Cook 1-2 dishes.
7. End of the second half. Eat dishes and end class.
